Database for Rancidity associated genes identified in Pearl millet

MilletRancidDB

Database for Rancidity associated genes identified in genomes of Pearl millet, Foxtail millet, Finger millet, Rice and Arabadopsis along with 82 transcriptome datasets of Pearl millet.

Welcome to the Millet Rancidity Database (MilletRancidDB)

Pearl millet holds the sixth position among the most significant cereal crops. Additionally, it has been found that pearl millet is the fourth most extensively cultivated food crop in India.

Pearl millet is classified as a "Nutri-cereal" owing to its superior nutritional composition when compared to other cereal crops. Although pearl millet exhibits high nutritional value, it is not frequently consumed due to its susceptibility to rancidity in the flour, even when stored for a brief period of few days. Enzymatic rancidity caused by lipase, lipoxygenase (LOX), polyphenol oxidase, and peroxidase enzymes is a significant issue for pearl millet.

This database provides details of four rancidity associated enzymes (Lipase, Lipoxygenase, Polyphenol Oxidase and Peroxidase) in 15 genomes of 05 different plant species, i.e.:

  • 11 varieties of Pennisetum glaucum.
  • Setaria italica (Foxtail millet).
  • Eleusine coracana (Finger millet).
  • Oryza sativa (Rice).
  • Arabidopsis thaliana.

Once this detail was obtained for rancidity associated genes in different millets, rice and arabidopsis, it was used for identifying rancidity associated transcripts/enzymes in 82 different transcriptome datasets of Pearl millet which belong to different cultivars, tissues, and stress condition. MilletRancidDB provides details of more than 10 lakhs hits obtained for 04 raincidity associated enzymes in 82 transcriptome datasets of Pearl millet.
